Problems installing KB2770917 in Windows 8

I was having some problems installing Windows 8 KB2770917 update, it stopped at 15% and then it rolled back the installation. As being diagnosed as having CUD (Cumpulsory update disorder) I found a solution in Microsoft site: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/i-cannot-install-windows-update-kb2770917/e2189ae7-e86a-4bf2-931a-d985b25ad950 Run msconfig (Windows+R, msconfig) Go to Services Select Hide all Microsoft services Disable All non Microsoft services Setup KB reboot run msconfig again, Services and  Enable all Services reboot again to start the services and it worked for me.

How to find out if you are running 32-bit or 64-bit version of MySQL

I neeeded to update MySQL, installed using an automatic installer, so having passed a lot of time after I did the installation, I needed to know which version of MySQL I was running. I found two was: Inside MySQL console: mysql>show global variables like "version_compile%"; The answer was: +-------------------------+-------+ | Variable_name           | Value | +-------------------------+-------+ | version_compile_machine | x86   | | version_compile_os      | Win64 | +-------------------------+-------+ As I understand this means that I am runnig x86 version of MySQL on a Windows 64 machine, so the answer for me is that I am running the 32 bit version. x86 32 bits i686 32 bits x86-64 - 64 bits The other way to get this information is using the command prompt, in your mysqld.exe location run: mysqld --version and you will get mostly the same information. As I understand Win64 refers to the machine I am running, and the other value to the mysql ver

http://localhost/sys/en/classic/login/login page not found installing ProcessMaker

I have been trying to install ProcessMaker using Wamp to avoid having several installations of MySQL, Apache and PHP. After serveral attemps I kept getting errors and could not make it work. My goal was to setup ProcessMaker in the following way. I tried using an alias instead of a Virtual Host. http://localhost/ProcessMaker As it turns out, it cannot be done that way. Whatever you do, you will not make it work (I guess there is a way, but yet have to find one, and would be not supported). The correct way would be something like http://ProcessMaker.localhost This would requiere changes in my hosts file and I guess I will have to go that way. The reference I found was this: http://forum.processmaker.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=249 Hopes to save you some time.

Problems after upgrading Wordpress

I've have this problem a couple of times after upgrading Wordpress to the latest version. Trying to go to the admin page in Wordpress, I received the message that the page does not exist with the following line in the address bar, after my site name http://..../wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F I do not remember what I did the last time, I believe I reinstalled the update from Goddady's site. But this time around it did not work. After doing some research I found this at the Wordpress site: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/upgrade-to-34 The post by chowsir had the solution for me. The way I see it it is very simple, if you read the line. The page that does not exist is upgrade.php, so I look into my wp-admin directory, and it is true, the file is not there, there are other files with similar names update.php, upgrade-functions.php, update-core.php, but the file upgrade.php is not there, at least, not anymore. Go to http://wordpress.org/download/

Problem with USB drivers

Having messed up my USB drivers, doing things that shouldn't be done on Windows I ended up with the following problems: 1. USB Hubs (specifically a Belkin hub first, and all including internal notebook hubs) were not recognized as such, I made them work as USB Root Hubs installing the driver manually, but with problems. 2. Kindle Fire not recognized as a external drive, the was no way I could find a driver for it. 3. Livescribe Echo Pen not being recognized, even installing the driver manually with an error 257, and connecting and disconnecting by itself every 5 to 10 seconds. Being desperate, I decided to remove all Universal Serial Bus controllers from the "Computer Management" or Device Manager in Windows, using the reasoning, how worse can this be. To my surprise, nothing was now recognized, even when I re-installed the USB Host Controller with the original Chipset drivers from Intel/Lenovo. Then, something magic happened, I found an article in the Microsoft

Installing Android ICS on Amazon Kindle Fire

I love my Kindle Fire, it was a good buy, and worked great. Rooting is a must, as you cannot buy or install much on it if you do not have an US Bank issued credit card. But after getting a iPad, it seemed liked getting behind. Having Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on my Galaxy S, I knew the problem was not the device, but the OS version. I tried installing ICS a while ago, but could not run Netflix, and YouTube, almost everything else worked, but the video part was important. So after a short while, I went back to the Kindle OS (Android 2.x, with a "you cannot get lost" interface). But reading about the developments in ICS, and that video is now supported, I decided to try again. The process is real simple, but risky. For a couple of hours, last time I tried it, I ended with a bricked kindle. But in the end it all went back to normal. The first step for me was installing Kindle Fire Utility: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 The instru

Ubuntu does not recognize windows partitions

Trying to install Ubuntu 12.10, the Ubuntu installer does not recognize that a Windows partition exists. Looking around, it seems kind an usual problem, but with not many real solutions. Browsing around I found an utility to "fix"my partition table. My partition table was working great in Windows, so "fix" is more appropriate than fix. http://www.rodsbooks.com/fixparts/ Being myself I Windows person, I selected the Windows version of the program: to run it I used fixparts 0: The first thing I got was: NOTICE: GPT signatures detected on the disk, but no 0xEE protective partition! The GPT signatures are probably left over from a previous partition table. Do you want to delete them (if you answer 'Y', this will happen immediately)? (Y/N): Now I understood the problem. I used this disk to install MacOS, and the leftovers made the problem. I selected, Y (for yes) and then w to save and exit. Booted Windows again to see everything was OK, and th

Problems with iPhoto, iBooks Author and Photo Boot in VMWare Virtual Mac

The only real problem I still have running Mac OS X in a VMWare Windows PC is related to graphics in a limited number of programs. I found the following thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=274878 But no solution in sight. Is a shame I spend my first $15 in the Apple store buying iPhoto and the program is completely useless right now, I hope you guys at insanelymac.com find a solution soon, but for those looking for a solution, I can tell you that for now, I now I have problem, like you.

Adding sound to VMWare Lion 1.7.3 computer

As my research on  running Lion on a PC, one of the problems I found was installing audio. The process looked rather simple, install the following driver: EnsoniqAudioPCI_v1.0.3_Lion.pkg No big science there, the speaker audio appeared, itunes ran without a problem, but still no sound. My solution, really studid really: Go to System Preferences Select Sound, then Output Chose Line Out, The problem was solved and it works OK, not great but OK.

Experiences with Lenovo S10-3t and Mac OSX

I am doing some research on Mac OS X running on ordinary PC's, and after a while,  my overall conclusion  it is a better investment to buy a mac mini, but I will not buy it for now. Some issues with the installation The installation procedure can be found here: http://iatkos.me/2011/12/readme-en/ Use  iATKOS 2 to install, the most important are: "If you have a NetBook with an Intel Atom CPU, then press F8 at boot screen, type “mach_atom” without quotes and hit enter"  Then when you install, you have to select the Atom option, and the PS/2 option for the installation to work. Cannot boot in OSX after installing VoodooHDA Audio Controller One of the problems I had is that I tried installing Voodoo HDA drivers to make my sound work. After installing the drivers, I got an error about not being able to install the driver, and the installation program locked up. After some research on the web, I found a solution to restore the machine Boot OSX
